Igloos and Ice Fishing

On Thursday after we had music with Ms. Megan, we rotated between three centers.  One center involved making igloos using packing peanuts. The students first wrote the letter I on their paper and then proceeded to glue packing peanuts onto an igloo shape with a grid pattern.

At another center, we played ABC Bingo.  This game was a fun way to sharpen our letter recognition skills.

Puzzles on the carpet was our third center.

On Friday as the students came into the classroom, they completed their icicle glue art by writing the word icicle on their paper.

After the students completed their morning work they were able to enjoy free play on the carpet.  However, some of the students were in the mood for free drawing.  Armed with a box of markers and scrap paper,  they had a great time letting their imagination do the work.

After free play and calendar, the students engaged in three centers.  All of our Friday centers were quite enjoyable and the students had a great time learning while having fun.  For one of our centers we incorporated geometry by manipulating rubber bands on Geoboards to create different shapes.

Another center the students loved was a sensory center that involved playing in shaving cream with plastic animals and plastic cars.

Finally, in keeping in line with our Ice theme this week, the students had the chance to go ice fishing.  They used "fishing poles" with a magnet on the end to catch magnetic letters in the fish pond.  We practiced letter recognition and sight word recognition by catching letters that matched the letters presented on flash cards.

See you on Wednesday!
