Tuesday, March 27, 2012--Bike Day!

Today was a fun and exciting day! We started out with two centers, where we practiced writing the letter Yy in paint (in a large Ziploc bag to keep it mess free!) and used the chalkboard to practice writing the letter Yy and our first and last names.

Next we headed outside to hop on our bikes! We learned the color coded traffic signals and practiced go, stop, and caution. Thanks to Dean and Hayden for helping to serve as traffic officers!

Before eating snack (popsicles--yum!) and playing outside, we had Calendar. Landon was our leader today, and he did a fantastic job! Overall, we had a great day! See you tomorrow!

Friday, March 23, 2012--Clouds and Wind

Today we wrapped up our Ww unit and our discussion of weather. We started out after our Ww morning work with a messy little exercise in fine motor skills. The kids sat in a circle and practiced using their pincher muscles to tear white paper for our cloud activity. Mr. David, who cleans our room each day, was probably very excited to see their handiwork.

Wow! Great job!
When we finished tearing our paper, we brought it to the tables and brainstormed what kinds of clouds we liked and/or what shape we hoped to see in the clouds. Then we used the white paper to shape our "clouds" onto our paper. Check out some of their creations!

Benjamin's cloud is shaped like a comfy chair!

Grant likes cumulus clouds because they are white and puffy.
We also put the finishing touches on our windsocks. Hopefully we will have a little breeze on Monday so that we can test them out.

During Circle Time we tried our hand at making a homemade thermometer. We'll check to see how well we were able to measure temperature on Monday.

Emily was our leader today! She did a great job!

We made sure we saved time for our favorite activity--Show and Tell! The kids look forward to this all week, and we had some really fun items on Friday. Every single boy and girl had something to show! Here are just a few.

Sophia's bear danced to "Raindrops Keep Falling on my Head." Perfect for this week's unit!
Grant brought in some very cool magnetic beads and wands!

Group shot of all of our cuties!
Thank you to all of the moms and dads who sent in healthy snack this week! See you tomorrow!

Thursday, March 22, 2012--Clouds in a Cup

Today we used shaving cream, water, and food coloring to recreate the process that leads to precipitation. On Tuesday and Wednesday, we discussed how the clouds get very heavy with condensation. When the water vapor in the clouds becomes so heavy the clouds can no longer hold all of it, precipitation falls. The students used medicine droppers to drip colored water into their shaving cream clouds to see how much water it would take before the "precipitation" broke through. We had a lot of fun watching as the students' clouds rained at various intervals.

We also painted the bodies of our windsocks and hung them up to dry.

Windsocks in progress
Of course we also got to enjoy our favorite Thursday treat--music with Ms. Kaitlyn!

We finally got to add a little variety to our Weather Worms because it began to rain as we were getting ready for Calendar.

Dean was our leader today. He did a great job!

We read these two wonderful books and made a little time for Mickey Mouse Memory since we weren't able to go outside.

See you tomorrow!
