Jonah and the Whale

Today we focused on our February Bible story, Jonah and the Whale!  We engaged in centers that were focused on this story and also incorporated the letter W for whale in our activities.

At circle time today we took turns passing around and hugging a stuffed whale.  Everyone patiently waited their turn to hug the whale.  After we got our snuggles out, we read a book about Jonah and the Whale.  The book was super cute and the students even asked to hear it again!  The story offered a nice segue into a conversation about respecting and obeying God, parents, family, and teachers.

After circle time, we got busy with our four centers for the day.  Centers today included watercolor painting, play-doh, water sensory, and a felt storyboard.

At the watercolor painting center, the students used blue and turquoise liquid watercolor to paint a whale similar to the whale in our story.

Our play-doh center included forming the letter W with play-doh.  The students used various ways to make their W's.  Some rolled their play-doh while others squished and mashed it.

One of the favorite centers of the day was the water sensory table.  The students had the opportunity to play with a variety of different whales in a water filled bin. The rule for this activity was no splashing and the students adhered to this rule fabulously!  They had fun pretending the whales were in the ocean and they also had fun pretending to bathe the whales.

At our center on the rug, the students recreated the story of Jonah and the Whale using a felt board and the lovable stuffed whale.

After we finished rotating through all of our centers, we played an intense game of I Spy!  The students had fun taking turns spying an object and guessing the objects their friends spied.  We then finished the day with a yummy healthy snack of strawberries and pretzels and a little outside time.

Two of our friends enjoying healthy snack!

100th Day of School

Today was our 100th Day of School!
We had a lot of fun engaging in activities centered around the number 100.

As the students came in this morning, they used dot markers to decorate the number 100.

We also counted to 100 today!  The students did fantastic!  After we decorated our 100 and counted to 100, we began our centers for the day.

At one center the students completed an activity in which they had to draw a picture of 100 things they would want, 100 things they would not want, 100 things they would like to eat, and 100 things they would not like to eat.  The students came up with some great ideas during this activity.

At another center, we made our 100 day trail mix using 10 pieces of 10 different items.  This was by far the favorite activity of the day!  The students did a great job sorting their 100 snacks.  Thank you to everyone for sending in contributions for our trail mix and helping make the day super special!

After we finished our centers, we read a Fancy Nancy book about the 100th day of school.  We then donned our 100th day hats and posed for a group picture.  The students decided we were the kings and queens of 100th Day!

Wearing our hats we ate a 100th day snack fit for 100th day kings and queens!  Marshmallows, M&Ms, Honeycomb cereal, Kix cereal, Teddy Grahams, Pretzels, Skittles, Cheezits, Goldfish, Cheerios, oh my!!

The students can now boast that they are 100 days smarter!!
