V is for Valentine's

On Monday, the students used their creativity and imagination to create their own Valentine creatures or objects using various heart cutouts.  Some of the creatures or objects the students created were owls, butterflies, a frog, a bird, a fairy, and a monster truck.  We enjoyed watching the creative juices flow as the students engaged their imaginations.

After the students created their Valentine creatures, they had the opportunity to practice their writing skills.  Keeping with the Valentine theme, the students wrote on a sentence strip the phrase "I love my (insert the creature or object they created)".  They did a fantastic job with this activity and everyone's writing skills are improving significantly.

Another activity the kids enjoyed was gluing buttons onto a paper heart for a special Valentine craft we are making.

The students enjoying our Big Books.

They were having a cute conversation about who lived where on the map in this book.
