Tuesday, March 20, 2012--A Whale of a Day!

Today we explored some new Ww words and conducted a science experiment on the water cycle. Once we finished our morning work (called "What's in the Window, Walrus?), we learned all about the water cycle using a cool book on weather and a snazzy poster. Using a jar of hot water topped with a lid full of ice cubes, we simulated the way warm air meets cool air in the atmosphere to form condensation. Or in four and five-year-old terms, we made it rain in a jar!

Our snazzy visual aid

Rain in a jar! I love Landon's facial expression in this one.
We then colored our own mini-versions of our visual aid and practiced saying the "big" words on the poster and discussing what they mean.

Afterward, we did a little watercolor painting of a whale. The kids as always did a beautiful and creative job!

We worked on Day 2 of our weather worms, which so far are proving to be full of sunny body parts. We may create segments for this weekend's weather, too, in the hopes of adding some different weather types to our little project.

Our leader today was Sophia. She did a great job helping us with the Pledge!

After we updated our calendar, the kids actually asked me if they could practice counting. I'd be fibbing if I said my heart skip a beat with happiness at their eagerness to learn! They have improved so much with their counting over the past several weeks!

Finally before snack, we found a way to work in some puzzle time. These babies love their puzzles!

These are our books from today. The library had many great choices to continue working with your children at home on weather. See you tomorrow!
